Auditions, Competitions & Masterclasses

There are musical programs offered by various professional music organizations in New York City which encourage all young pianists to participate. These include adjudications and auditions, scholarships, public recitals, competitions and masterclasses. Among the better known organization is the Associated Music Teachers League, (AMTL), where Mr. Alvarez is a member and a board member. It provides students the opportunity to perform, excel and join other talented students winning these events. Every pupil whose diligence and talent to qualify for these events will be encouraged to participate.
Among those who have successfully participated at the AMTL Winter Musicales at Queens' College were: Laura Mitrache, David Lee, Neil Reyes and Evelyn Alamag. The highly competitive auditions for the AMTL's Young Musicians' Concert at the Weill Recital Hall of the Carnegie Hall were won by the following pupils: Christian de Jesus, John Daniel de Jesus, and Neil Reyes (two-year consecutive winner). In 2004 , John Daniel de Jesus was invited in a masterclass conducted by Professor Seymour Bernstein, where he performed Chopin's Ballade no. 1 in G minor. Then in 2007, Laura Mitrache played Haydn's Sonata in C Major, Hob. XVI/50 L60 - Allegro Movement for Professor Arkady Aronov in similar venue at the Steinway Hall in 57th Street, New York City.
